The 3 Tools I wish I had when I started Coaching
What if the difference between feeling stuck as a coach and creating real transformation for your clients came down to a few powerful tools?
In this episode of The Mindset Coach Podcast, I’m sharing the three tools I wish I’d had from day one as a coach, plus a bonus tool that’s fast becoming essential in today’s coaching landscape. These tools have the power to accelerate client results, deepen breakthroughs, and give you the confidence and structure you need to grow your practice with ease.
From mindset diagnostics that illuminate exactly where clients are starting, to NLP reframing that shifts beliefs at their root, to frameworks that provide the freedom container for powerful coaching conversations—and the rise of AI as a thought partner in your practice—this episode is packed with strategies you can apply right away.
If you’re ready to coach with clarity, confidence and creativity, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.
The Tools I Wish I Had as a New Coach
If I could go back and hand my past self three tools as a new coach, ones that would have fast-tracked my results, deepened client breakthroughs, and saved me countless hours of second-guessing, these would be it. And because we’re in a completely new era of coaching, I’ve also added a fourth bonus tool.
So, if you’re a new or evolving coach, grab a cup, settle in, and let’s explore the tools I wish I had right from the beginning.
Tool One: Mindset Diagnostics
You can’t shift what you can’t see. One of the most powerful things you can give your client and yourself is a clear picture of where they’re starting. That’s exactly what a diagnostic tool offers: a structured, psychologically sound baseline to work from.
Instead of coaching in the dark, you begin with clarity—and your client does too.
At the Mindset Coach Academy, we use the Mindset Dimensions Report, our proprietary diagnostic tool that assesses beliefs, identity, emotions, energy, values, and language. What’s incredible is how quickly it creates an aha moment. Instead of “I think this is the issue,” you can see clearly what’s actually showing up, where to focus, and how to measure progress over time.
Whether you use the Mindset Dimensions Report, DISC, Myers-Briggs, or your own niche-specific diagnostic, having this foundation accelerates the journey.
Tool Two: NLP Reframing
This is something I lean on daily in my coaching practice. NLP reframing is especially powerful when a client feels stuck, spiralling, or saying, “I know this, but I still can’t shift it.”
One of my favourite techniques is the Reframe Chain, a four-step process:
- Identify the limiting belief.
- Ask: What does that belief protect you from?
- Explore the intention behind that protection.
- Ask: What could you believe instead that honours the intention and moves you forward?
This honours the belief rather than dismissing it, which is key—because most beliefs exist for a reason, even if they’re outdated.
When clients learn this, they begin to self-coach between sessions, which is where sustainable transformation happens.
Tool Three: The Freedom Container
Early in my coaching career, I avoided structure because I thought it would restrict me. What I’ve since learned is that structure actually gives intuition somewhere to land.
At the Mindset Coach Academy, we teach frameworks like the CLEAR Model (Contract, Listen, Elicit, Action, Result) and our proprietary MINDSET Model.
A coaching framework helps anchor both you and the client. It creates safety, trust, and credibility.
Having a repeatable coaching framework also makes it easier to articulate your process in marketing and discovery calls. Clients trust you faster and can clearly see the value of what you do.
Tool Four (Bonus): AI as Your Co-Pilot
When I started coaching, I never imagined AI would be part of the toolkit. But the industry is evolving fast, and understanding AI is no longer optional.
I don’t mean replacing the human relationship because that remains essential. I mean enhancing insight and freeing up energy to go deeper with clients.
For example, I use AI to generate tailored journal prompts, summarise session themes, identify patterns in client experiences, and even simulate practice conversations for coach training.
That’s why we’re building the AI Coach Certification at the Mindset Coach Academy, so coaches can integrate AI ethically and effectively into their practice and business growth.
So, there you have it:
- Diagnostics to get clarity fast.
- NLP reframing to shift beliefs at the root.
- Coaching frameworks to give you freedom.
- And AI—not as a threat, but as a co-pilot.
